What is Cloud? | Journey To The Cloud Video Series (Part 1)

Cloud is a ‘’buzzword” that has been resonating around the accounting industry for quite some time now. Keeping this in mind, we have come up with a video series “Journey To The Cloud” by one of the most influential people in the accounting domain and our leadership board member, Geni Whitehouse.

Geni is a CPA, Keynote Presenter, co-founder of a bookkeeping business, and also a part-time winery consultant. She is the author of “How to Make a Boring Subject Interesting: 52 Ways Even A Nerd Can Be Heard” and was mentioned by Accounting Today as one of the top 100 most influential people in accounting in 2011. She was also named “One of the most powerful women in accounting” and one of the 25 thought leaders in the accounting profession by CPA Practice Advisor.

In the first video of this series, Geni Whitehouse gives an overview of the critical aspects of cloud technology and the benefits associated with it.

Let’s watch the video to know more-

Video Transcription:

I work in at least three different businesses from three different locations, and so for me, the cloud represents freedom. But I want more. I want to know that my data is taken care of, that it is encrypted, secured, and accessible at the same time. But more than that, I want to know that my company is supported by an IT infrastructure that I can rely on. Clouds are everywhere, and so is “fog.”

What we mean by the cloud?

  • Centralized applications and access to data from multiple locations
  • Secured by design
  • It’s optimized computing power that you can access at a much-reduced price
  • Backed-up and protected data
  • And a pay-as-you-grow billing model

Those are all very important aspects of true cloud.

The result of all of this is that as a user, in my case, it means I have open access to the solutions I need, different devices to my people, and ultimately to better ideas and insights.

So, in the rest of this video series, we are going to talk about some of the other aspects of cloud computing that you need to understand.
