Hello, how can we help you?

QuickBooks Update – Unknown Error

As the topic suggests, you’re in the middle of a business critical migration, and your process is met with an error, status or description of which is completely unknown. Such hindrances are bound to affect the company in a negative manner. QuickBooks updates don’t come easy and the process is cumbersome, to say the least.

So, if you’re stuck with an anonymous error, below is the protocol which you need to follow:

To reach the roots of this issue and find its remedy, you’ll need to verify your Internet Security & Firewall settings, Microsoft Internet Explorer settings, and system date-time settings.

  1. To verify/modify Internet security and personal firewall settings:]
  • Refer to your Internet security and firewall software documentation for instructions on how to adjust the configuration [Including port settings] for a seamless QuickBooks update process.
  • Strictly verify that the two underlying QuickBooks files have been given the download and update access through your firewall security software:

qbw32.exe [QuickBooks executable file] and  qbupdate.exe [QuickBooks update executable file]

  • Verify that port 80 and port 443 aren’t disabled.

Note: Due to the complexity and the variety of available systems and the respective software, exact solutions are a little hard to find. For further assistance, please contact your system or network administrator, the vendor you purchased the firewall software from, or a local PC consultant.

  1. To verify Microsoft Internet Explorer settings:
  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Select the “Tools” menu and choose the “Internet options” button.
  • Click on the “Advanced” tab.
  • Scroll down to the “Security” section.
  • Select the options “Use SSL 2.0 & Use SSL 3.0”.
  • Click on the “Ok” button.

  • Select the “Adjust Date/Time” option.
  • Set the correct date & time [Make a note of the year as well].
  • Click on the “Ok” button.
