The company is a fully remote BIM outsourcing and consultancy firm serving architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) clients. Its distributed team of BIM designers, coordinators, and engineers, spread across several countries, uses Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and the wider Autodesk stack to deliver modeling, MEP and structural coordination, clash detection, and construction documentation to the LOD each project requires.
Challenges
- Large federated Revit models exhausted laptop RAM and lacked a workstation GPU, causing slow model opens, lengthy sync-to-central times, and stuttering 3D navigation.
- A generic, non-GPU virtual desktop forced Revit’s viewport to fall back to CPU rendering, making navigation crawl and leaving GPU-dependent tools like Enscape unusable.
- Shared GPU sessions caused inconsistent performance, as one heavy model could consume graphics memory needed by other users on the same host.
- Designers in different countries hit slow sync to central and slow file transfers over VPN, adding lag to every action.

Solutions
- Each modeler received a dedicated NVIDIA RTX 6000-class vGPU cloud desktop, with users managing the largest federated models and rendering improved to RTX 8000-class, enabling hardware-accelerated Revit and smooth Enscape.
- Co-located computing with the central model in the data center allows synchronization to remain local, with only the encrypted Citrix HDX screen streams sent to each user, thereby eliminating cross-country lag.
- Completed a free migration to the Citrix-based VDI environment, setting up desktops, installing Revit and plugins, and transferring templates, families, and live project files before go-live.
- Standardized every seat on one golden image (Revit, Navisworks, Dynamo, Enscape, ACC connectors), ending version and plugin drift.
- Kept all files in SOC 2, SSAE-16, and ISO 27001/27017/27018 certified data centers, with MFA, anti-keylogging, and clipboard/USB controls, so client IP never lands on a local device.
- Provided 24×7 managed support for onboarding, tuning, and day-to-day issues across countries and time zones.
