Here are some useful tips you can implement to optimize the performance of your QuickBooks Desktop software on cloud.

1. Get a Swift Internet Connection

Hosted QuickBooks can be accessed from anywhere at any time via a portable device connected over a reliable internet connection. These devices include smartphones, laptops, and tablets, among others.

Since the processing and access of the data take place over the Internet, a slow connection can lead to latency in the accounting operations. Though the hosted QuickBooks does not require a high Internet speed, it has to be fast enough for you to access QuickBooks functions in real-time.

Apart from the speed factor, instability of the network can be the reason for slow operations of QuickBooks. That means when you are choosing an internet connection, ensure that your Internet service provider ranks high on speed as well as stability.

2. Choose SSD Server For Hosting QuickBooks

All the functions of hosted QuickBooks are processed on the cloud-based server. Hence, the performance of the server is vital to the software. Compared to many previous technologies, SSD (Solid State Drive) based servers have shown remarkably better speed in delivering the application-based solution over the cloud.

Moreover, maintenance practices followed in the data center play a vital role in optimizing the performance of the accounting process. HVAC Redundancy, N+1 designing, etc. are some of the practices that trustworthy data centers follow.

Hence, it is recommended that you choose the cloud provider that host their servers in such data centers.

3. Plan Resources According To Number of Users

The cloud providers offer you with flexible solutions that enable you to choose the server specifications like RAM, storage, number of users, etc. You are charged on a pay-as-per-usage basis that includes the usage of all these specs.

This implies that the more resources you use, the more charges you incur. To save revenue, most businesses tend to opt for limited resources.

The server specification is directly proportional to the number of users. As the number of users increases, the server specifications have to be upgraded accordingly.

Consult an expert before you take a final call on the resource requirements. Another option is that most service providers offer a free trial for QuickBooks Hosting. You can use the cloud hosting services of the provider and analyze its performance beforehand.

4. Integrate the Add-ons Smartly

Integrating smart add-ons with QuickBooks can streamline the operations brilliantly. On the other hand, if the add-on integration is done inefficiently, the chances are that it may spoil the effectiveness of QuickBooks and slow down the accounting process.

This is because installing add-on with hosted QuickBooks is slightly different from the local machine installations. This may even require the changes with the server resources.

The best solution is to opt for the support services of the hosting provider. Their training and experience will offer reliable solutions without hampering QuickBooks experience even a bit.

5. Maintain Local Machine Rightly

As already mentioned, that QuickBooks Desktop hosted on the cloud can be accessed with the help of portable devices like smartphones, laptops, etc. These devices are used only to access the software. Practically speaking, the specifications of the device do not affect the performance of the software.

However, it is recommended to maintain your portable devices and analyze any issues that might restrict access to the cloud or hamper its performance.

For instance, if you are accessing the application over the browser, clear the cookies and cache memory time to time. Running too many applications may also be causing freezing with device process. The gist is pointing that keep your device in the right shape with some basic checks.

High-Performance is the Key!

The critical factor of hosting QuickBooks Desktop on the cloud is the high-performance it delivers due to its flexible environment. However, certain bottlenecks can hamper the performance of your hosted QuickBooks software.

You can eliminate network latency by opting for a reliable and swift Internet connection. It can enable you to access QuickBooks in real-time. You should also look for cloud service providers that deploy high-performance SSD-based servers in their data centers.

The server resources should be chosen as per the number of users. Resource optimization helps you to reduce costs and enhance performance. You can integrate the add-ons with the QuickBooks, but with the appropriate selection of resources to accommodate the complete solution. Also, the portable devices you use should also be checked for any discrepancy.

Keeping these tips in mind, combined with the high-performance cloud computing, you QuickBooks will function smoother than ever.

I am hosting QB 2016 on cloud. My QB gets slower during the peak hours or when more users are working. All users experience the slowness. What resources should I increase?

    • Deepanshu Gahlaut says:

It seems like increasing Memory (or RAM) will be able to resolve the issue. If you are working on shared server then I would also like to recommend switching to dedicated server for best results with many users.

  • Steven says:

QuickBooks online is usually slower. At times, I was just hitting refresh repeatedly. I had switch back to hosting of QuickBooks desktop. It is considerably faster.

  • Grimes says:

All the service providers claim that their servers are fast. To test their real speed, go heavy even in the trial period.

  • Jacob says:

Some add-ons are painful and they slowdown QuickBooks particularly with hosting. Some scanners, firewalls etc. are needed but they affect the speed. For better needs, more than sufficient server resources should be used to work faster on QuickBooks.

  • Matthew says:

The article explains only about slow QuickBooks hosting not about desktop or Mac versions. If you are not on cloud these tips will not help.

  • Nick says:

Good thing about cloud is that just get a good internet connection and then you do not need to worry on your end. If there is any issue, it’s up to the service provider to resolve.
