Moving Your Business to the Cloud: 3 Things to Consider

Cloud technology, perhaps the most discussed technology currently, has proved itself as a great medium to simplify the business operations. Initially, most businesses shied away from the technology. But those few, who adopted it, were able to execute their business really well. Hassle-free maintenance, security, lesser hardware requirement, and no location independent execution are some of the top most features of cloud, because of which other businesses have started taking an interest in it. It has led to a situation where every small and big corporation is in need of trustable cloud software.

Moving Your Business to the Cloud 3 Things to Consider

Citing the demand in market, the number of cloud service providers is rising at an uncontrollable rate. This rise in competition has controlled the pricing of services from rising severely, but at the same time the new customers are facing a problem of plenty as well. Choosing the right cloud service can be a very frustrating task these days. To understand what’s right and what’s not, here are some very crucial things that every organization should consider before taking a walk into the cloud.

1. Safeguard of the resources

First and foremost, the organization must look for the service that assures the security of their data to the best. This is because data has become the most valuable asset for the businesses and thus, data theft can be the biggest disaster. To make sure that the client should trust them, the organizations should perform demo/drill tests of the cloud service. When you choose a cloud service, it is always necessary to check the background of the provider. It gives a good idea on how efficient they would be with the data handling.

For the safety concerns, it is recommended as a better move to find the other alternatives that can be used during the events of emergencies. Always keep eyes open to other available options. Who knows, what comes out down the road?

2. Getting the right approach

Do not go for the cloud just because everyone else is. Go for the cloud, if it brings the goodness to your business. Going with the odds it is most likely to do so, but in rare cases it can be another way round.

Look for a provider who provides the best cloud solution that could also lead to financial benefits. One should also check whether the methods used by the hosting provider are cost cutting or not. There are numerous cloud hosting services, but very few of them can help an organization in reducing their actual expenses and capital expenses. At the same time, as an enterprise you must keep looking for growth. That mean, the cloud services you choose should have easy and flexible plans to fit the future needs. You would definitely not want to shift between services often.

3. Understanding core needs of the business

Each business has its some peculiarities and so are its needs. That means you must emphasize on choosing the service that meets your business needs.

There might be several plans on offer to lure you; mammoth cloud space for comparatively lesser price or something like that are some of such plans. But make sure that you will actually need that mammoth space (now or possibly in near future). If you do not need it, do not go for it or else you might actually be paying an additional cost that appeared to a ‘comparatively lesser’ price.

It is not generally necessary that every organization would require every aspect of cloud technology in order to run its business safe and sound. If the right cloud setup is not found and still go with the one, it could turn into a nightmare.

Concluding your needs

No matter how easy the cloud technology can make the business processes, it still needs ample amount of time to properly settle in with all the norms of the superior. It is always better to take references before reaching a final decision.

Most of the organizations test cloud platforms initially during a demo period, and then they come to the final decision. Investing the proper time in the evaluation of the platform makes it more worth and accountable for the foreseeable future.

All it takes for an organization to make a difference in the market is the right cloud platform of methods that they adopt. Cloud can be a good one of them. Also, to mention that it takes some ample research and common sense to find the suitable platform which can be molded according to the will of the organization. The organization should focus on every aspect of the cloud platform and should then only come to a conclusive decision. From the cost expenses to the security of data on offer to the gain of revenue possible, there are various factors and an enterprise must balance them all.

Many enterprises are blaming lack of security as the reason of not choosing cloud services. Irony is that they do not have bit of in-house data security policy.

  • Hank Downey says:

How do I calculate my future data space needs to choose a plan? Say, space needs for tonight is 20 GB and may go to 1 TB in next couple of months.

    • Aditi Tyagi says:

Finding a tailor-made plan with each byte of space measured is hard to find and also not very convenient option. Think of your needs. Is your data going to rise at the same pace in every couple of months or there will be stagnancy? We should usually choose a plan which fits our current needs and still have ample free space. Another thing to consider is time for the plan. Is it a monthly plan, or yearly plan? Analyze how fast your data is rising and then decide which plan you need. You might also like to keep the data divided on different clouds (if possible) for pricing relaxation.

Sometimes, I feel the number of cloud service providers is more than the actual number of organization looking for these services.

  • Casey Clark says:

Every technology is trying to gain on popularity of cloud services. Recently I tried business phone service on cloud. It worked out well. People not trusting the cloud for some unique logics seem to be like from some other world.
