This year has been like a roller coaster for most of the businesses around the world. The coronavirus has significantly affected every part of the industry. With the market shutdowns and social distancing, the workforce was forced to work from home for their own good.

Thankfully, the advancements in technologies such as the cloud have made remote working possible during such tough times. With the employees spread all over the world, team collaboration tools that can be operated remotely have made it possible to coordinate with the customers and the workforce efficiently.

Let’s see what he has to say:

1. What are your thoughts on the new way of working amidst COVID-19?

The workplace has undergone some significant changes this year – the biggest is managing more people working from home. For some managers, this is a whole new world, especially when it comes to holding people accountable.

Managers are now having to transition to being superb communicators in a variety of formats. It’s amazing how many non-verbal cues employees take when you are in-person together. You lose the influence of this nuance in a remote working environment and have to compensate with an abundance of clear and concise communication.

2. Does remote working actually work for accounting firms?

Remote working can work for a lot of businesses, especially a technology-driven industry like accounting. If I’m honest, doesn’t my accountant work remotely already? Meaning that if you outsource your accounting to a firm as a business owner, is the current environment really any different than it was pre-COVID?

If anything, I think you might have the benefit of seeing more clients virtually and being distracted less with your technology’s “do not disturb” feature. Accounting firms can embrace the public’s perception of remote work to become more productive and seek opportunities to build better client relationships.

3. Do you think Cloud Technology is an absolute necessity in the current situation?

Several years ago, cloud technology was just beginning to reach mass-market appeal. Today, it’s a business requirement. You need to have 24/7 access to your data and information, no matter where you are. More people are working from home, or anywhere other than the office.

Having access to your information is critical to working at the speed of business. Not only that, the security and redundancy of using the cloud help you feel secure knowing your data is safe and free from a devastating loss.

4. Is the migration of applications from local desktop to the cloud as scary as thought?

Putting all of your data in the cloud can be scary, and that is why it is important to choose a trustworthy cloud provider. In short, I think the pros outweigh the cons here. The initial set up of a cloud service may be lengthy, but think about all the time you will save being able to access your data from anywhere – as long as you have a good internet connection.

The great thing is there are plenty of service providers who can help you move to the cloud.  If you have a lot of information to move, make sure you get some professional help.

5. Do cloud service providers ensure the security of the data?

This will vary based on the provider. Personally, I like the security of using a hosting service that has bank-level security of their data while providing redundancies of their service. Meaning, that the information is stored in multiple locations in case an unforeseen disaster compromises a location.

No provider can guarantee the absolute security of data, but services are getting better by the minute, and most agreements have some type of remediation you can take as a client if a data breach or loss occurs.

To Conclude

With several organizations adjusting to the new normal, everyone, be it employees or employers are facing challenges while adjusting to this lifestyle. It’s important to understand that we’re all in it together. So, let’s just accept it as a challenge and come out of it stronger.
