Cloud storage is a cloud computing model that enables storing data and files on the internet through a cloud computing provider that you can access either through the public internet or with a dedicated private network connection. Cloud storage eliminates the need to buy and manage your own data storage infrastructure, providing you agility, scalability, and durability, with anytime, anywhere data access.

Cloud storage is delivered by a cloud services provider that owns and operates data storage capacity by maintaining large datacenters in multiple locations around the world. They manage capacity, security, and durability to make data accessible to your applications over the internet in a pay-as-you-go model.

There are three main cloud storage types: object storage, file storage, and block storage.

• Object Storage is a data storage architecture for large stores of unstructured data. Applications developed in the cloud often take advantage of the vast scalability and metadata characteristics of object storage.
• File Storage or file-based storage is widely used among applications and stores data in a hierarchical folder and file format.
• Block Storage stores data in the form of blocks, each block has its own unique identifier for quick storage and retrieval.

Amazon EFS (elastic file system) provides shared access to data using a traditional file sharing permissions model and hierarchical directory structure via the NFSv4 protocol.

Amazon S3 (simple storage service) is an object storage platform that uses a simple API for storing and accessing data.

Applications that access data using a standard file system interface can use Amazon EFS to take advantage of the scalability and reliability of file storage in the cloud; Applications that do not require a file system structure and are designed to work with object storage can use Amazon S3 as a massively scalable, durable, low-cost object storage solution

• Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) redundantly stores objects on multiple devices across a minimum of three Availability Zones.
• Amazon FSx and Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) provide shared file access for applications with unstructured data such as video and medical images, web and rich media content, or user directories or large data sets.
• Block-based cloud storage solutions like Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) are provisioned with each Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) compute instance and deliver the ultra-low latency required for high-performance workloads.
